Carl Adkins - 1941-2009
Carl Edward Adkins, 67, of Rush, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, in King's Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.
Carl was born Aug. 20, 1941, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late James and Mary Jane Dixon Adkins.
Carl served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a retired electrician with Armco Steel and had pastored 21st Tabernacle of Ashland and Scottsmoor Freewill Baptist Church in Scottsmoor, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Ronnie Adkins.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Vivian Laverne Arthur Adkins; four children, Carla Brown of Summit, Denise (Pete) Smith of Raceland, Carl (Patty) Adkins Jr. of Flatwoods and Bobby Adkins of Rush; seven grandchildren, Joey (Miranda) Gillum, Justin and Jason Gillum, Jarrod and Emily Smith and Tabetha Adkins and Derek White; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Bella Gillum; brothers and sisters Diean (Kenny) Pierce of Cannonsburg, Jerry (Joyce) Adkins of Walker, La., Debbie (Paul) Hensley of Ashland, Karen (Pete) Epling of Olive Hill and Anita (Chuck) Daniels of Ashland; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Carl will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev. Eddie Kouns and the Rev. Ron Potter. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
