Barbara Rice

Barbara Elizabeth Rice, 61, of Ashland, Kentucky passed away on July 16, 2014 at Kings Daughters' Medical Center. She was born on November 10, 1952 in Louisa, Kentucky to the late Judge Edwin D. Rice and Ann Stephenson Rice. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Paul Rice and James Edwin Rice.
Barbara was a graduate of Morehead State University and had her Masters in Library Science. She was retired and formerly the librarian at Summitt Elementary School, and member of the retired Boyd County Teacher's Association, KEA and NEA.
She is survived by sister-in-laws, Dana Johnson Rice of Flatwoods, Ky. and Mrs. Cathy Rice of Grayson, Ky.; an uncle, William P. (Sherry) Stephenson of Huntington, WV.; an aunt, Jean (Philip) Modlin of Zoar, Va., formerly of Huntington, WV.; Nieces, Elizabeth (Brian) Fields of MO, Mary Rice of Lexington, Ky. and Julianna Rice of Flatwoods, Ky.; cousins, Emilene Mayhew of Louisville, Ky., Vicki Brightwell of Louisville, Ky., Barbara Good of Charleston, WV., Dr. Joan Prasse of Zoar, VA., Judy Kenaston of Beckley, WV. and Jane Modlin of Chesapeake, OH.; and special friends, Clyde Miles, Joan Arnett and Family, Donnie Patrick, Mrs. Carla Schmock, Carol Spence and Tony Traugett.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel with Pastor Leo Burrell of Huntington, WV. officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be the funeral home on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 12:00 Noon until service time at 3:00 PM.
