Alberta Hickman - 1912-2009
Alberta Susan Sparks Stone Hickman, 96, of Westwood went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 22, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center.
Mrs. Hickman was born March 31, 1912, in Sciotoville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Carlos B. Sparks and Bertha Ann Barber Sparks Jackson Morris.
She was the oldest member of Thirteenth Street Freewill Baptist Church and a retired cook from Fairview Independent Schools. Until recent years, Alberta enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, reading and most of all going to church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, the father of her son, Victor Stone and Hassell Hickman; a son, Harold Stone Sr.; and grandsons, James Victor "J.V." Stone and Walter Edward "Eddie" Stone Jr.; infant granddaughter, Sharon Kay Stone; infant great-granddaughter, Brittany Stone; infant sister, Barbara Lucille Jackson; and four brothers Elden Sparks, Edgar Sparks, Howard Sparks and Clinton Jr. Jackson.
Surviving are a son, Walter Stone Sr. and wife, Ida, of Catlettsburg; grandchildren, Carol Stone Robinson, Kimberly Stone (Bob) Hulett, and Mary Susan "Sue" Stone (Stanley) Tackett, all of Westwood, Harold Jr. (Harweda) Stone of Catlettsburg, Dennis (Sharon) Stone of Westwood, Francine Stone (Kenneth) Thomas of Ashland and Angela Stone (Bert, Jr.) Patton of Rush; great-grandchildren, Larry (Michelle) Ritchie, Edward (Wanda) Ritchie, Timothy "T.J." Ritchie, Tabitha Ritchie, Matthew (Trista) Tackett, Cody Stone and Shawna Stone (David Brown), all of Westwood, James "Jimmy Lee" (Gina) Stone of Rush, Eric (Shellie) Stone of Coal Grove, Tracy Stone (David) Roach of Wichita Falls, Texas, Sharice Stone, Michael Thomas, Shaun Thomas, Justin Thomas and Kayla Thomas (Jason) Mullins, all of Ashland, and Rachel Blevins of Rush; and great-great-grandchildren, Brett, Cody, Thaddeus, Karlee, Natalie, Marista, Hannah, Harlee, Monica, Seth and Katie.
Additional survivors include a sister, Glenna Sparks Hughes of Louisa; a brother, Robinson (Barbara) Jackson of Oregon, Ohio; and former daughters-in-law, Peggy Thompson Stone Bays of Inverness, Fla., and Frances Oney Stone (James) Leibee of Ashland and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, by the Rev. Steve Williams. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Larry Ritchie, Edward Ritchie, T. J. Ritchie, Brett Ritchie, Eric Stone, Jimmy Stone, Shaun Thomas, Justin Thomas and Michael Thomas.
