Gay Stewart, 82, of Ashland, passed away Monday morning, February 4, 2019, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born January 11, 1937, in Hitchins, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Nell Bradford Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfred “Jack” Stewart in 1993; two brothers, Ralph Wendell Johnson and Walter Johnson and one sister, Kathleen Johnson.
Gay was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and was the former owner of Portsmouth Beauty College.
Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Poole (Mike) of Lexington, and Jasmine Johnson of Mt. Sterling; nephew, Walter Johnson (Tina) of Mt. Sterling; grandchildren, Keagan Poole, Amarie Sexton, Hunter Sexton, Kathleen Poole and Austin Poole. She also leaves behind many brothers and sisters in Christ.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
